heiny residence was designed by heibrid architecture and studio roeder and built by 180 degrees
The original 1958 mid-century residence, by George Allan & Hugo Olson architects, was composed of two smaller separate masonry structures linked by a series of trellises and gardens.
The objective for the new project was to develop a sense of expanded interior space within the confines of the original building footprint while maintaining and celebrating the existing garden courtyard experiences. By 'breaking free' the residences existing masonry corners, as well as rearranging the living spaces, the existing interior environment benefits from a new panoramic relationship from the north entry gardens, through the main courtyard, to the south entertaining patios.
